How to choose the diet?

Browsing recently through the net I discovered about 500 types of different diet offers. How to choose the suitable one among such a variety?

Most people trying to get rid of overweight act not quite right when they choose a diet. They think – From now I will not eat bread or meat, fats, chocolate, sugar, macaroni… The list can be endless. But they fail to defeat overweight. Why?

From the other hand properly chosen diet can help you to get rid of overweight and than will help you to maintain your weight within needed limits. Let’s look close at the problem.

All popular diets are divided conditionally on 3 categories:

1. Low-carb diets – that are diets with a high content of proteins, moderate content of fats and low content carbohydrates.

2. Moderate fat diets – that are diets with a high content of carbohydrates and moderate content of proteins and fats.

3. Low fat diets – that are diets with quite low content of proteins and high content of carbohydrates. Most vegetarian diets are from this category.

You must remember that to get rid of overweight and keep after that achieved results you can only if you limit calories consumption.

Moreover long term diet plans that have a big variety of foodstuffs are considered healthier and more useful than short term ones.

As per diet categories they all have their advantages and disadvantages. To choose the diet that suits you best I advice you to follow 2 principles. Here they are.

First. It is very unlikely that the diet that excludes any kind of foodstuffs will be effective. They are not good as a log term diet. Those tough diets are good if you want to get rid of some kilos quickly. But usually overweight gets back soon again cause it is very hard to follow such diets long.

Second. You must like foodstuffs of the diet plan you decided to use. In this case you can follow it for a long time. If for example you don’t like vegetables than vegetarian diets are not for you how effective they would seem. And if you don’t like milk foodstuffs the diet plans based on it are not for you also.

It is a very important condition. Imagine that you must eat foodstuffs you hate with all your heart for several days! Most likely you throw away this diet few days later. And overweight will be back again.

All above means that tough diets excluding certain foodstuffs are suitable only as a short term diet plan to get rid quickly of excess 3-5kg (6-11lb). If your aim is to loose more than 5kg (11lb) it is better to follow the balanced long term diet plan with moderate content of calories.
